If you lack underfloor space, a self-contained composting system is an ideal choice. These compact units offer the benefit of being easy to install in an existing bathroom without requiring underfloor access for setup or maintenance of the composting chamber—a convenience that most other composting toilets can’t provide.
Self-contained waterless toilets are type of waterless toilets that collect (many also compost) waste within a single system that you sit directly on when using the toilet. These waterless toilets contain the waste within the toilet itself. In other words, there is no external composting unit under the floor level for example (compare with split-systems).
It is worth noting that not all waterless toilets are true composting toilets. Many commercial waterless toilet manufacturers intentionally misuse the term “composting toilet” when advertising for example urine-diverting waterless toilets.
