Green Toilet is a line of composting toilets designed and manufactured in Finland, distributed by Waterless Toilet Shop in the United States. All Green Toilets operate without the need for electricity or water, making them eco-friendly off-the-grid toilet solutions for all kinds of settings ranging from small private use to busy public use.
The Green Toilet product line encompasses a versatile range of models. The basic models are Green Toilet 120 Family and Green Toilet 330. In addition there are Green Toilet Lux models for indoor applications with clear space under the bathroom floor level. There are also self-contained Green Toilet models, the Green Toilet 100 Easy composting toilet and the Green Toilet Light urine-diverting waterless toilet.
The basic models of Green Toilet, including the Green Toilet 120 family and Green Toilet 330 composting toilets, are typically installed in an outhouse but can also be used indoors. These models are most commonly installed from behind, underneath a toilet seat. Users do not sit directly on the Green Toilet composting container; therefore, a separate, usually flat-shaped toilet seat is made for the toilet.

When the Green Toilet composting container fills up, it is pulled out from underneath the toilet seat from the back of the outhouse/toilet building and replaced with an empty spare container. The full container is then sealed with a closed lid and left outside for further composting process to take place.
By the time the spare container has also filled up, the compost in the first container should be ready to be safely reused, for example, in a garden for non-edible plants and trees. This principle is called batch composting in which waste is collected and treated in separate batches.
The Green Toilet 120 family is the more compact of our two basic Green Toilet models. The “GT 120” is ideal for families and smaller groups. Typically used in outdoor outhouses, this model is also adaptable for tiny homes and other unconventional settings.
The Green Toilet 120 is well-suited for seasonal use, accommodating up to five or six people during weekends, holidays, or visits to a holiday home. It’s an excellent choice for example for couples who may occasionally have additional guests, offering reliable composting toilet solution without compromising on convenience.
The larger Green Toilet 330 composting toilet has nearly three times the capacity of the smaller 120 model, with a volume of approximately 90 gallons (330 liters). This larger model is ideal for more continuous, year-round use and can comfortably accommodate more than five users on a regular basis. It is also a popular choice for off-grid public toilets. We recommend the Green Toilet 330 for customers requiring a composting toilet for daily use by five people or more.
Aside from its increased capacity, the Green Toilet 330 shares the same features as the smaller Green Toilet 120 family, ensuring reliable and efficient composting performance.
The Green Toilet 100 Easy model shares the same excellent features as the other Green Toilet models. However, it is designed to be installed directly at floor level, allowing users to sit directly on the toilet. Unlike the GT 120 and 330 models, the Green Toilet 100 Easy is serviced through the front door of the outhouse/bathroom. This model is also well-suited for indoor use, and a spare container is available to ensure continuous use.
The Green Toilet 100 Easy can accommodate up to 4 people for seasonal, limited use, such as in a holiday home or tiny house. For more permanent, year-round use or if more people are using the toilet, additional spare composting containers may be required to ensure continuous operation.
No, the Green Toilets composting toilets are designed to be odorless at all times. The Green Toilets feature a double base design that effectively separates urine from solid waste. This separation ensures that liquid waste flows away, while solid waste remains on the top layer. This separation is crucial for the composting process and effectively prevents any odors.
Yes, the Green Toilet is suitable for use in cold climates. Although freezing temperatures will temporarily stop the composting process, the toilet remains fully functional. Composting will naturally resume when temperatures rise, typically in spring. While the composting process slows down in freezing temperatures, the toilet itself can still be used without any issues.
We recommend using the ready composted material as fertilizer for non-edible plants and trees for example in your garden or backyard.
The compost does not smell at all nor can you recognize that it has been toilet waste before composting process.
Please remember to consult your local state/county regulations regarding composting of toilet waste as not all states in the U.S. allow composting toilets without permit.
